GPSEG Member Advocacy Council

GPSEG thrives because of the dedication and volunteerism of its members who volunteer to lead and serve its committees, subgroups, ad hoc groups, initiatives and Board.

The MAC is comprised of the Board of Directors and the chairs and co-chairs of GPSEG’s Committees and Subgroups and other groups that may be established.  The purpose and responsibilities of the MAC  include:

ü  Propose ideas and recommendations for new programs, changes to existing programs and activities, and suggestions for policy changes to be considered for Board or staff action

ü  Recommend operational modifications that will enhance member experience, increase member value and build GPSEG’s brand

ü  Provide input regarding strategic issues based on member feedback and/or experience from committee/subgroup service

ü  Advocate on behalf of the Board and Executive Director to communicate Board policy and operational decisions to members to ensure understanding and respond to ongoing questions

ü  Model the behaviors that contribute to unity, dialogue, succession planning and organizational strength to support ongoing governance objectives of developing new volunteer leaders

The MAC operates as a link between the Board and the members at large.  They can best do that by being well informed about the policy decisions of the board and the operational decisions of the Executive Director and the ways in which those decisions are implemented.  The MAC  informs the Executive Director of issues as they arise so that s/he can address these issues as appropriate, including where necessary to bring such matters to the attention of the Board of Directors.

Activities of the MAC:

The MAC will meet as a group at least twice a year; additional meetings may be called as strategic issues warranting input surface.  Subgroup chairs or committee chairs may also meet together to address issues or discussion common issues.  Agendas for meetings will be tailored to sharing and gathering information.  Communications such as regular updates or online discussion threads will be used to facilitate dialogue, share knowledge, generate effective practice sharing, and improve processes.
