Using the Aikido Model for Resolving Conflict

With Andrew Cohn and GregKinnison

The Human Capital Management subgroupinvites you to explore the benefits of refocusing your urge to win through force, to rechanneling your energy into a positive flow, putting to use the principles of Aikido.Develop successful leadership skills including centering, the gentle use of power instead of force, influence instead of domination, and focused attention as the keys to effective collaboration and teamwork.

Thisprofessional development experience uses Aikido as a leadership metaphor. It is high impact learning, but low impact physically. Through simple, yet powerful kinesthetic activities, participants will learn to:

  • Remain centered while engaged in conflict situations,
  • Experience the connection between mindfulness, stress management and conflict management,
  • Understand and experience the difference between force and power, as well as the risks and benefits in using each, and...
  • Expand influence as a leader by modeling the ability to respond appropriately to conflict.

No athletic wear is necessary. You only need to feel comfortable moving in your usual business casual attire. You will be asked to remove your shoes to participate safely with your colleagues. A light breakfast will be served before we get onto the mat together.
