Do you want to see first hand how manufacturing is on the rise again in the US? Do you want to be part of that transition and help to create companies and jobs in the greater Philadelphia region?
If so, come joins us for an OPEN HOUSE on July 28 to meet with and learn about our new mentoring partner NextFab. NextFab will be hosting GPSEG for a facility tour and reception. There is no cost to members for this event but registration is required so we know how many to expect.
NextFab is one of the premier makespaces in the country. NextFab was originally founded in 2009 by Dr. Evan Malone in order to counteract offshore outsourcing of US manufacturing jobs and reverse the decline of manufacturing education that took place during the 90’s and early 2000’s. In 2012 NextFab relocated its main operations to a 21,000 sq. ft. building on Philadelphia’s “builder’s row” - a building materials distribution and light industrial section of southwest Center City, Philadelphia - in order to empower their members and clients with better tools and the space to take on larger and more challenging projects.
NextFab's focus on product development and entrepreneurship informs the range of tools and services that they provide. Traditional prototyping and product development can be very intimidating and expensive; NextFab aspires to be a one-stop shop, where anyone - regardless of background - can make a prototype using next generation digital design tools, automated fabrication tools to reduce cost, and a be part of a community of collaborators to overcome challenges that cannot be surmounted alone.
This partnership will provide GPSEG members with opportunities to mentor NextFab’s member entrepreneurs and also assist with NextFab’s expanding Incubator Program.
We hope that the tour will provide a window into modern manufacturing and give GPSEG members a glimpse into the future of the manufacturing economy.
