How Women Break Through “Bitch” to
Effectively Lead Innovation
And What’s Good for the Goose is Good for the Gander
With Carol Vallone Mitchell and Patricia Schaeffer,
Co-founders of Talent Strategy Partners
November 18, 2015
Philadelphia Country Club
Join us at the November 18th Human Capital Management Subgroup Meeting for this provocative presentation and discussion.
The marketplace demand for new products and creative ideas, globalization and shifting technology, and the fear of appearing obsolete or out-of-date are driving the need for innovation. For any organization to thrive in this hyper change period it must innovate. But what are the leadership characteristics for creating a culture of sustainable innovation?
Men and women alike should join Carol Mitchell and her partner, GPSEG member Pat Schaeffer, for a spirited discussion of these characteristics and the six reasons women make great innovation leaders. Carol’s research on gender differences in leadership style resulted in the Women’s Leadership BlueprintTM described in her book Breaking Through “Bitch:” How Women Can Shatter Stereotypes and Lead Fearlessly. Her research confirms other studies indicating women are more likely than men to have the competencies – a collaborative leadership style infused with emotional intelligence – needed to thrive in and lead a culture of innovation.
Women are not the only ones who can benefit by developing the behaviors described in the book. Though women leaders benefit by breaking through “bitch” and men don’t have to worry about that, today’s organizations need leaders – both men and women – who are skilled in these collaborative skills.
In addition to the discussion of these innovation leadership skills, participants will have the opportunity to assess themselves on these characteristics and to help each other generate ideas for developing them.
Carol Vallone Mitchell has over 20 years of experience. She received her doctorate in Organizational Behavior from the University of Pennsylvania. She developed the Women’s Leadership Blueprint™ and wrote the book, Breaking Through Bitch: How Women Can Shelter Stereotypes And Lead Fearlessly”.
Pat Schaeffer has consulted as well as worked in corporate human resources. She create behavioral roadmaps that reinforce company culture and enhance organizational effectiveness. Pat is active within GPSEG as a chair of the Governance Committee, co-chair of the New Member Guide Program and a member of the Innovation Leadership Forum team.
