PHILADELPHIA — GPSEG announced that Temple University’s Fox School of Business has designated today as “GPSEG Day” in recognition of the organization’s contributions to the school’s entrepreneurial efforts.
Constantine “Chris” Pavlides, who died in fall 2009, was the founder and longtime chairman of GPSEG, as well as an Associate Professor of Entrepreneurship in the Fox School.
In addition, today also is the day that Temple’s 13th annual Be Your Own Boss Bowl – a business plan competition – concludes. Aside from providing mentoring to many of the 95 entrants, GPSEG assisted with the overall judging. Finalists are competing to win the grand prize, which features a package worth more than $115,000, including cash, Microsoft products and professional services.
GPSEG’s annual golf tournament raised $6,000 in 2010 toward a scholarship in Pavlides’ name and proceeds from this year’s tournament, which is slated for May 9 at Radley Run Country Club in West Chester, also will go toward the scholarship.
“Chris Pavlides’ legacy is a strong one that GPSEG has continued after his passing,” said M. Moshe Porat, Dean of the Fox School of Business. “We’re thankful not only for the monetary contributions, but also for the invaluable advisory hours put in by GPSEG members toward our Be Your Own Boss Bowl.”
“Giving back to the community is quite rewarding for our membership,” said GPSEG Chairman and CEO Dwayne Patterson. “We’re both happy and honored to impart the real-world insights our members have accumulated to the future leaders of the region’s business community.”
